Habitat professionals perform a thorough visual inspection of the interior and exterior of the home or building that meets the ASHI standards. It is an extensive inspection that covers over 500 items and includes the exterior grading and landscaping, structure (foundation, framing, roofing, siding, porches, doors and windows, etc.), heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electric, insulation and ventilation. A full written report is issued within 24 hours.
Pest inspections are performed by certified pest inspectors. A visual examination is done to determine the possible presence of the main wood destroying insects, which are, termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees and powder post beetles.
Radon is a clear odorless radioactive gas that can sometimes lead to certain health ailments. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It can be a problem if it builds up to an unsafe level in the home. The test consists of two electret or charcoal canisters placed side by side in the home for a minimum of 48 hours. The test kit is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the report forwarded to the client.
Water testing ranges from basic bacteria tests to extensive comprehensive scans. The basic bacteria test checks for the presence of coliform and e-coli bacteria. Other water tests can be for lead or other metals, radon, MTBE and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), etc. Testing can be done for private wells or municipal water systems.
A septic dye test involves the introduction of a florescent dye into the plumbing system and visually inspecting the area of the septic tank, distribution box and leach fields.
